A strong landscape project is easier to price, build, and maintain when the important decisions are made in the right order.

Start with the architecture

Pavers should support the home rather than compete with it. Pull one or two tones from brick, stone, siding or roof materials, then compare samples outdoors in sun and shade.

Choose texture for the way the space will be used

A pool edge, dining terrace and front walk have different comfort and traction needs. Texture should be evaluated with furniture, bare feet, snow and routine cleaning in mind.

Treat the base as part of the finished product

The surface receives the attention, but excavation, compacted aggregate, edge restraint and drainage determine how the patio performs through Ohio freeze-thaw cycles.

Use pattern to organize the space

A field pattern can keep large areas calm while borders define edges, steps or activity zones. Too many contrasting elements can make a compact patio feel busy.

Plan related features early

Fire pits, seat walls, pergola posts, grills and lighting affect clearances and base construction. Coordinating them at design stage avoids expensive rework later.
